A Look Around The MEC

West Liberty has 2,176 undergrad students and is located in West Liberty, WV. They offer 70 majors and the athletic teams are nicknamed the Hilltoppers. It began as West Liberty Academy back in 1837 and is most well known for it's dental hygiene program. Some of the other majors offered at West Liberty are: Medical labratory sciences, nursing, speech pathology, audiology, and chemistry. The Hilltoppers play at the ASRC (Athletic Sport and Recreational Complex.) Some of the more famous alumni of West Liberty are country singer Brad Paisley- baseball pitcher Joe Niekro- former football defensive lineman E.J. Burt- and- democratic member of the senate Jack Yost.

Wheeling Jesuit is just a short eight miles away from West Liberty and is a roman catholic institution in Wheeling, West Va. It was founded as Wheeling College in 1954. Wheeling is one of 28 member institutions. The school has an enrollment of 1,173 undergraduate students. Wheeling has 21 varsity sports and opened to students in 1955. The athletic teams are nicknamed the Cardinals and they play basketball at the McDonough Center. The notable alumni are current Michigan basketball head coach John Beilin- current NBA and G-League Player Haywood Highsmith- Ms. West Virginia Tara Wilson- Mapquest CEO Mike Mulligan- Former Ohio State and Boston College basketball coach Jim O'Brien.

The University of Charleston was called Morris Harvey College when it first came about. The school was founded in 1888 as Barboursville Seminary. In 1935 the school was moved to Charleston, in 1947 the Mason College of Fine Arts was around. The current name came about in 1978. They now have four more residence halls- a parking garage- and- a fitness center. They also have a new school of pharmacy. They have a new library as well. The sports teams are called the Golden Eagles and were the 2017 Division II national champions in soccer. The football, baseball, softball, and soccer fields have all been renovated. Some of the famous alumni of Charleston are basketball coach Jim Harrick- Tim Armstead- and- Kristen Cunningham.

Fairmont State was founded in 1865 and has an undergrad enrollment of 3,527 students. It has 23 buildings and is a four year bachelor program. Over 29,000 people are alums of the school. They have 80+ programs that are business students. A few other programs that the school offer are education- technology- fine arts- liberal arts- nursing- and- criminal justice. Basketball player Leroy Loggins- George C. Edwards is a member of the Maryland senate. Bill Stewart was the football coach at West Virginia after Rich Rodriguez are some of the notable alums.

Urbana College was founded in 1850. It was just the second institution that had woman. Oberlin College was the first. It has 28 undergraduate programs. In 1985 it was changed from Urbana College to Urbana University. The teams are nicknamed the Blue Knights. They have 21 sports teams total.

Some of the famous alumni of Urbana are UFC fighter Justin Edwards- Winthrop woman's basketball coach Kevin Cook- Flip Flippovic is a former punter for the Dallas Cowboys. Ross McGregor of the House Of Representatives. Emily Taylor is the representative of the National Association of Commissioner's of Woman from 1975-1977.

West Virginia State is a historically black public university that was founded in 1891. WVSU was established as a West Virginia colored institute in 1891. The school opened in May 1892. The athletic teams are known as the Yellow Jackets and are known for music. Some of the notable alumni are Richard Ojeda in the U.S. Senate. Harrison Byrd is a member who serves in the U.S. legislature.

West Virginia Wesleyan is a liberal arts school in Buckhannon West Va. The school consists of 1400 students from 35 states and 21 countries. It was founded in 1890 by the West Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church. In 2014 the school was in the U.S. News and World Report as the 14th best school college in the South Region. Also was recognized by the Princeton Review in 2011. The school consists of 43 majors and 36 minors. They have a 3-2 parternship with Virginia Tech- The University Of Virginia- and- West Virginia University. The average class size is 19 students. They have 21 sports teams and are nicknamed the Bobcats. They have 70 total clubs and organizations. Some famous alumni of Wesleyan are poet Maggie Anderson- baseball player Ken Ash- and- anthropologist David E.Stuart.

Concord University is a public university in Athens, West Va. It was founded on 2/28 in 1872. It is known as the campus beautiful. They have a College of Professional Studies- College of Natural Sciences (Mathematics and Health.) The College of Fine Arts- Humanities- and- Social Sciences. They have 200 on campus organizations and five residence halls. The athletic teams are known as the Mountain Lions. Some of the famous alumni of Concord are West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd- University of Richmond law professor Ronald J. Bagica, and Politican Don Caruth.
