A Pair In Double Figures In NDC Defeat.

The Notre Dame College Falcons had a pair of players score in double figures, as Jordan Roland netted 15- and- Tyland Crawford came off the bench to score 11 in a 77-65 loss at Rex Pyles Arena on the campus of Alderson Broaddus University. With the loss NDC saw it's brief two game win streak snapped, and fell to 4-6 on the season. Alderson Broaddus improved to 6-5 on the year, with a fourth consecutive win.

Coach Mark Richmond was blunt about his team's performance after this one:

" We weren't the tougher team tonight. We missed numerous shots around the rim. They did not help a lot on drives, so we had driving lanes all night. We just did not convert. We had two assists- and- 17 turnovers, that's not a winning formula, Richmond explained.

John Godinez got NDC on the board first before the Battlers hit a pair of 3-pointer's. Roland would then go on a personal 8-0 run, as he knocked down a pair of triples and a layup to make it 10-6 in favor of NDC. The Falcons would lead by eight (20-12) after a Jordan Burton 3-pointer with 10:44 to go in the opening half. The Battlers would come back, and take a 26-24 lead after another Shriver 3-pointer at the 5:14 mark of the opening half. After a Mike Sampson old-fashioned three-point play knotted the game at 29, AB would retake the lead, and take a 35-31 advantage into halftime.

Roland led NDC with 10 in the opening half- Burton hit both of his 3-point attempts on his way to six points in the first 20 minutes- while Crawford made all three of his field goal attempts on his way to six points in the half. Sampson had five points- and- five rebounds in the half. NDC shot 44 percent from the field- 67 percent (4-6) from the 3-point line- and- went a perfect three of three from the free throw line in the opening stanza. They led on the boards 18-14- and- had two assists- and- 10 turnovers in the half.

The Battlers were led by Shriver- and- KJ Walker who had nine points each in the first half. As a team they shot 47 percent from the field- 40 percent (6-15) from the 3-point line- and- 50 percent (1-2) at the free throw line in the opening stanza. They had seven assists- and- six turnovers in the half.

NDC got to within one (37-36) after a trio of Burton free throws, but could not get over the hump to take the lead. After those Burton free throws AB would go on a 14-2 burst to open up a 13 point lead (51-38) after a Shriver layup with 13:26 to go. The Falcons would go on a 6-0 run to get to within seven (65-58) after a Godinez jumper, an Elijah Barnett dunk, and a layup by Roland with 5:10 to go ,but that is as close as they would get, as the Battlers would score the next five, and cruise to the victory.

Along with the double digit scorers, NDC got nine points and 10 rebounds from Sampson- and- nine points each from both Godinez- and- Burton. NDC shot 44 percent from the field- 39 percent (5-13) from the 3-point line- and- 83 percent (10-12) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 36-33, but had two assists- and- 17 turnovers in the contest.

Shriver drilled seven 3-pointer's on his way to 27 points for the Battlers- while KJ Walker (15-) and- Tahleik Walker (10) also scored in double figures. AB shot 48 percent as a team- 41 percent (12-29) from the 3-point line- and- 56 percent (5-9) from the free throw line. They had 16 assists- and- 10 turnovers in the contest.

NDC will be back in action when they host #23 West Liberty Saturday at Murphy Gym. Tip time is slated for 4:30 PM.
