The awards just keep rolling in for Will Vorhees. On Wednesday for the second time this season Vorhees was named a First Team All- American. This time it was by the Basketball Times. Last week the redshirt senior from Lima was named a First Team All-American by the Conference Commissioner's Association. Vorhees is the first NDC players since Jerome Pierce in the 2007-2008 season to be named a First Team All-American.
Along with that Vorhees was named the Ron Lenz National Player Of The Year- and- in turn was selected to play with all the best senior's in the country in the D2 All-Star Game in Evansville. As a member of the East Team that rolled to victory in the game Vorhees scored 11 points and grabbed four rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Earlier this month Vorhees was named Atlantic Region Player Of The Year and Mountain East Conference Player Of The Year. Vorhees led the Falcons to the first ever outright tournament title and first ever trip to the national tournament earlier in the month. He averaged 23.3 points and 11.3 rebounds a game in Wheeling, West Va. as he was also named to the All-Tournament Team along with teammates Bruce Hodges- and- Larenz Thurman. Vorhees scored 44 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the NCAA Tournament game versus Virginia State at Indiana (PA.)
Earlier this season Vorhees become the first player in MEC history to score 2,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds. The all-time leading scorer in NDC history now sits at 2761 points in his career. Vorhees was also a big reason that the Falcons were the eighth most efficient offense when it came to points per possession this season in Division 2. Joey Witthus of undefeated and national champions Northwest Missouri State was the Basketball Times Player Of The Year and Ben McCollum of Northwest Missouri State was named the Coach Of The Year.
