Charging On! NDC wins Fourth Straight At Home As Scarberry Hits Milestone.

A little home cooking and some timely charges taken were the difference Saturday as the Notre Dame College Falcons were a 74-60 winner over the Davis and Elkins Senators at Murphy Gym.In the process Drew Scarberry made his 300th 3-pointer of his career. He is just the third player in NDC history to do so. With the win NDC improved to 8-14 and 6-10 in the MEC. D&E felll to 6-16 and 4-12 in the MEC after the loss.

Coach Mark Richmond talked about the win afterwards and thanked the fans for the continued support:

"We found a way to win tonight. I would like to thank the fans and students for coming out and showing the continued support. Even if you don't play your best it is hard to complain about a 14 point win."Richmond explained.

Levi Frankland led the way for NDC with 25 points- Drew Scarberry added 12 including a pair of 3-pointer's that ties him for second in program history with Kyauta Taylor with 301 3-pointer's made. Dan Lott netted8 11 points- while DeAnthony Owens chipped in 10. The Falcons shot 46 percent as a team- 36 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line- and- 80 percent (16-20) from the free throw line. Th e Falcons had 16 assists- and- 14 turnovers as a team.

The Senators were led by 16 points from Erkam Kiris- Donte Doleman netted 14- Myles Monroe chipped in 13- and- Tyler Twyman had 11. The Senators shot 46 percent from the floor-35 percent (7-20) from the 3-point line- and- 82 percent (9-11) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 34-26. The Senators had 11 assists- and- 23 turnovers in the game.

NDC would lead 10-9 in the games first four minutes as Frankland would get off to a hot start. The Falcons would then open up a 14 point lead (23-9) as during a 13-0 run Jordan Burton would hit a jumper- Frankland- and- Lott would knock down three's and Hodges would make a layup before another Frankland triple. The lead would swell to 21 points (34-13) as Lott would hit a pair of free throws at the 9:17 mark of the opening half.

Richmond talked about Lott and Hodges:

"Getting 11 out of Dan was big tonight. He takes good shots- and- is really efficient. You know most of the time when he is taking a shot it is going to be a good one. Bruce played his role as well."

After another Lott bucket at the 2:55 mark of the half NDC held a 24 point advantage (42-18.) The Senators would close the half on a 10-2 run to get to within 16 (44-28.)

Frankland paced the Falcons with 19 in the opening half-while Lott added nine. The Falcons shot 50 percent from the floor- 46 percent (5-11) from the 3-point line- and- went five of five at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. Each team had 14 rebounds. NDC had 10 assists- and- three turnovers in the opening stanza.

The Senators were led by Doleman with 12 in the first half- while Monroe netted nine. They shot 50 percent from the floor-50 percent (4-8) from the 3-point line- and- made both free throw attempts (2-2.) The Senators had five assists- and- 12 turnovers in the opening half.

Richmond talked about how they built the big lead:

"We did a good job of spreading the ball around in that first half. For whatever reason these last couple games we have gotten off to tough starts and that killed us. It was nice to get off to a good start today. We did a good job of taking care of the ball in the first half. The difference in the game though was the charges that we took. They had 10 or 12 points taken off the board because of chargers today. That was huge. That's who we have to be if we want to be a good defensive team. We don't have an elite rim protector so we have to do the little things. They did bui

ld some momentum late in that first half- and- early in the second. We got a little careless with the ball and lackadaisical but we got it done."

After a Scarberry layup at the 18:18 mark the Falcons had a 20 point lead (50-30-) then the Senators would cut the lead to five (54-49) at the 10:34 mark. Frankland would come up with a huge old fashioned three point play that got the lead back out to eight. The Senators would get to within four when Scarberry would hit his 300th career 3-pointer at the 8:13 mark that made it 60-53. Owens would hit a three of his own and the lead would be back to 10. It was a six point game at the six minute mark but NDC would close the deal after a sequence when Scarberry knocked down a triple and then blocked a shot at the other end. NDC would cruise to victory from there.

After the game Scarberry defected all of the praise to his teammates:

" I just wanna thank my teammates for everything they have done for me. They're the reason I am where I am. All credit goes to them."Scarberry stated.

Lott talked about all the work Scarberry has put in:

" It's a true testimony to Drew and all the hard work he puts into his craft."Lott said.

Bruce Hodges talked about how proud a teammate he is:

" Congratulations to Drew very proud of him."Hodges mentioned.

Frankland talked about all the time Scarberry has put in:

" It's all the reps he gets up in the gym."Frankland stated.

Owens agreed:

" Shooters shot. Drew has been doing it since he got here and it's been working. If it ain't broke don't fix it.Owens stated.

The win was the fourth straight at home for the Falcons as they improved to 7-4 on the home floor. It also completed a season sweep of the Senators.

Frankland said it plain and simply:

" Great win gotta build off it. Onto the next one."

Hodges talked protecting the home floor:

" We gotta keep protecting the crib!"

Richmond talked minute distribution:

"We are trying to get some of these guys closer to low 30's in minutes played. We are going to need them this next 3-4 weeks. With limited depth and injuries. Tonight I though the minute distribution was good though. Ryan (Cartaino) is progressing wish we could get him a few more- need more out of (Jacob) Sala. All in all it was a good win though."

Richmond reiterated the difference in the game though:

"It was those charges for sure. That bailed us out."

He also talked about the rebounding:

" The key to getting more shots is effort and we did a decent job of that today. We did not win the rebounding battle- but the effort was good especially in the second half."

NDC will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to Fairmont State. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM.
