Cold Shooting Falcons Fall To Frostburg.

The Notre Dame College Falcons got off to a 10 point lead (23-13) midway thru the opening half- saw that lead evaporate before halftime- and- eventually would fall 72-69 to Frostburg State at Allegany College of Maryland. With the loss NDC falls to 3-10 and 1-6 in MEC play. The Bobcats with the win improve to 6-7 and 3-4 in league play.

Coach Mark Richmond broke it down after the contest:

" We definitely did not shoot it great though we did have good looks- and- just did not make enough of them. We did not guard dribble penetration well enough, as we gave up to many straight line drives."Richmond stated.

DeAnthony Owens had his first double-double as a member of NDC as he tallied 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on Wednesday night. Drew Scarberry netted 12 points- and- grabbed six rebounds- while Larenz Thurman tallied 10 points- and- six rebounds of his own. NDC shot 41 percent from the floor- 22 percent (6-27) from the 3-point line-and- 71 percent (15-21) from the free throw line in the loss. NDC won the rebounding battle 41-35. They had 11 assists- and- turned the ball over 15 times in the contest.

The Bobcats were led by a pair of players who combined for 46 of the teams 72 points. Joe Adedayo knocked down five 3-pointer's on his way to a 29 point night- while Daniel Alexander added 17. Frostburg shot 41 percent as a team- 27 percent (6-22) from the 3-point line- and- 70 percent (16-23) from the free throw line.

Jamil Jones converted an old fashioned three-point play to start the scoring for the Bobcats. NDC would counter with a 10-0 run after a Scarberry 3-pointer at the 16:12 mark of the opening stanza. The Falcons would have what would be the teams largest lead of the game at 10 (14-4) with 13:07 to go in the opening half after a Thurman jumper. Thurman would complete the old fashioned three-point play at the under 10 minute media time out that would make it 23-13 in favor of the Falcons. Unfortunately for NDC they would not be able to hold that lead. The lead would be eight (27-19) after a Jordan Burton layup at the 6:58 mark of the half. The Bobcats would battle back and tie the game at 31 after a Adedayo 3-pointer at the 3:58 mark. NDC would score the next four points after a Hodges layup and a Levi Frankland basket to lead 35-31 with 1:42 in the half. The Bobcats would score the last four points of the stanza- and- the game would be knotted at 35 as both teams headed to the locker room.

Owens had nine points- and- seven rebounds to lead the Falcons in the opening half- while Thurman added eight of his own. NDC shot 44 percent in the first stanza- 29 percent (4-14) from the 3-point line- and- 75 percent (3-4) at the free throw line. NDC led the rebounding battle 22-15 in the first half. They had eight assists- and- eight turnovers in the stanza.

Frostburg was led by Adedayo with 15 in the opening half- while Alexander added seven. They shot 43 percent from the field- 36 percent (4-11) from the 3-point line- and- 58 percent (7-12) from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. They had six assists- and- four turnovers as a team.

The Bobcats scored the first five points of the second half to regain the lead. NDC would fight back and tie the game at 42 after a Scarberry layup at the 15:21 mark. After a brief Bobcats lead the Falcons would go on a 6-0 run to go up 48-45 after a Owens layup- and- Scarberry jumper with 13:06 to go. After Adedayo- and- Owens would trade 3-ball's it would be 56-54 in favor of the Falcons with 9:48 to go. NDC had a 58-57 lead before the Bobcats went on a 7-0 run to make it 64-58 after a Torrin Stephens layup at the 7:31 mark. Down six with five minutes to go the Falcons would claw back into this one. A Scarberry layup and a pair of Burton free throws would cut the lead to two (68-66) with 1:22 remaining. Adedayo would score for the Bobcats but Frankland would put back a missed Scarberry 3-pointer and get fouled. The free throw would make it 70-69 with eight ticks remaining. Alexander who has struggled at the free throw line much of the season would go to the line and calmly drain both free throws. The Falcons would have one last shot but the 3-pointer by Burton as time expired was well off the mark.

Richmond talked about the ability to learn from these close games:

" Every game we play in this league is going to come down to the wire. We have to continue to get tougher- and- learn how to close games out down the stretch."Richmond mentioned.

NDC will be back in action Saturday as they will host Fairmont State at Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
