Efficient Offensive Night Lifts Falcons To Solid Home Win.

The Notre Dame College Falcons shot 52 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the 3-point line in a solid 94-86 home win over Frosturg State inside Murphy Gym on Wednesday night. With the win NDC improves to 9-4 on the season and 6-1 in the MEC. The Bobcats fall to 5-8 overall and 3-4 in the MEC, as they saw a three game win streak get snapped.

NDC Head Coach Mark Richmond talked about this one:

"I was proud of our effort tonight after an extended break. We played really well in the first half and really moved the ball, "Richmond mentioned.

NDC jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. A Sam Jackson free throw got them on the board, then a basket by Jaedon Willis, followed by a Bobcats hoop before John Godinez made a pair of free throws and a 3-pointer. After Daylin Lee made two of three free throws NDC had a 10-2 advantage early on. The Falcons lead would see the lead trimmed to one (13-12) after an Agiye Edwards hoop but Willis would score five points and Lee made a pair of free throws to make the score 20-12 NDC with 12:08 in the half. The Bobcats went on a run to cut the lead to 24-22 after another Edwards 3-pointer but a layup by Lee and a Barker basket stretched the lead back to six. With the score 28-24 NDC went on a 10-0 run capped by a Mike Sampson layup at the 7:28 mark in the first stanza made it 38-24. NDC would lead 58-42 at the intermission as they closed the half strong.

NDC shot 57 percent from the field and 60 percent (6-10) from the 3-point line in the opening stanza. They shot 75 percent (12-16) at the free throw line. Both Willis (12 points) and Sampson (11) scored in double figures in the first half.

The Bobcats were led by Edwards with 12 and Canaan Bartley with eight in the first stanza. They shot 50 percent from the field, 50 percent from the 3-point line, and went a perfect five of five at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.

Richmond talked about the first half:

" We played really well offensively in the first half and really moved the ball."

NDC would stretch the lead to 17 (65-48) after a Willis 3-pointer at the 18:06 mark. The Lead would stay double digits until Edwards hit another 3-pointer with 10:01 to go. Edwards then made a jumper to trim the lead to six but Barker hit a jumper and then knocked down a triple to make it 79-68 with 6:55 on the clock. With the lead at 10 (83-73) Lee made a layup and Tyland Crawford a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to 87-73 with 4:05 to go. The Bobcats would not go quietly as they countered with a 8-0 burst to make it 87-81 on a Jaylon Johnson 3-pointer with 2:11 to go. Willis would score four of the next five points to make it 91-82 with 45 seconds remaining. Edwards would make a layup but Crawford would add the exclamation point with the two handed jam with 34 seconds to go. The final would end up 94-86 in favor of the home team as they improved to 5-1 on the season at Murphy Gym.

Richmond had this to say after the game:

"We did enough defensively to win but we have to continue to improve and sustain our defensive intensity. I thought we did a nice job guarding their plays, now we have to do a better job guarding their players."

NDC was led by four players in double figures on the night. Willis paced NDC with 21 points, Mike Sampson added 18 points and nine rebounds, Lee added 12 to go along with six rebounds, while Barker added 10 and a team leading six assists off the bench. Crawford led the team with 12 rebounds to go with his eight points. As a team NDC shot 52 percent from the field, 50 percent (8-16) from the 3-point line, and 67 percent (18-27) at the free throw line. They had 18 assists and 13 turnovers in this one. They also won the rebounding battle 42-35.
