Falcons Battle Slippery Rock Friday

The Notre Dame College Falcons open the 2018-19 season when they take on Slippery Rock in the first game of the PSAC/MEC Challenge. Cal (Pa) and Fairmont State will meet in the nightcap. Tip time is set for 6 PM and as always you can catch all the action on NotreDameFalcons.com

The Falcons played an exhibition last Wednesday and fell 86-51 to Wright State in exhibition play. The Falcons were led by Will Vorhees who scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds- Larenz Thurman added 13 points- seven rebounds- and- a pair of assists before leaving the game due to an injury. Angelo Cugini was the top rebounder for NDC in that one with seven rebounds.

NDC returns Pre-Season All-American Will Vorhees who averaged 24.3 points and 10.7 rebounds before a season ending injury. The Falcons went 6-22 and 4-18 in the MEC last season but are picked to finish fourth in the MEC Pre-Season Poll. They will really heavily on a crop of newcomers as well.

Slippery Rock went 21-9 a year ago and 14-8 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Rock is picked to finish second in the PSAC West this year. They return a superstar of their own in Micah Till. Till averaged 21.3 points- and- 12 rebounds a game last season. Slippery Rock also has a ton of newcomers this season, after a team that averaged 81.5 points per game last season. They were very good on the glass a season ago, as they out-rebounded the opponent by six rebounds a contest.

NDC Coach Tim Koenig gave his thoughts on the game:

" We know Slippery Rock is a good team. We also know that they have Micah Till and tons of transfers. We think we know what they do, but there is a lot of unknown with this team since we have never played them before. What we do know is Till can rebound and is one of the best players in the country. We have to account for him on every possession. Koenig said."

"On our side we are not sure if Larenz (day to day)will play or not. Bruce (Hodges) has been cleared to play since last week so he will see some minutes for sure. We know we need to move bodies and move the ball. A goal of ours always on offense is to have under 10 turnovers a game." Koenig added."

Hodges added his take:

"For us and me personally it is about defense and turning defense to offense. It is my job to get the guys to talk, so you can be sure they will be talking tomorrow." Hodges added."

Maurice Carroll agreed with both Koenig and Hodges:

" Slippery Rock is a good team and we need to play hard on both ends of the floor." Carroll added."
