The Notre Dame College Falcons will travel to Athens, West Virginia to take on the Concord University Mountain Lions at the Carter Center tomorrow (12/2) afternoon. You can catch all the action on MountainEast.TV as tip time is slated for 4 PM.
"We are excited for the opportunity to play another MEC game on the road. Concord is a very good team and we will have to play a complete 40 minute game to get the win on the road against a very good team," NDC head coach Mark Richmond explained.
"It's going to be a tough road game tomorrow so we gotta set the tone first," NDC junior guard Kaleb Torrence said " We have to be the more aggressive team from start to finish. We have to continue to share the ball and play team defense in order to win," he added.
NDC (2-3 1-2 MEC) is coming off a hard fought 88-87 loss in overtime to Glenville State on Wednesday. The Falcons are looking for the teams first true road win of the season. Andre Harris led NDC with 22 points, 11 rebounds, four steals, and two blocks in the contest. NDC junior Gbolahan Adio added 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists in the defeat. Freshman Cameron Johnson scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while RJ Ogom added 11 points to go along with seven boards. As a team the Falcons are scoring an MEC fifth best 81.2 points per game while defensively they are eighth in the conference giving up 82.8 points per contest. The Falcons are also also eighth in the MEC shooting 42.4 percent from the field while they are third in the MEC at the other end holding the opposition to a 40.4 percent field goal percentage. NDC has struggled from the 3-point line where they shoot an MEC 10th best 27.7 percent while they are fourth in the MEC holding the opposition to a 31.8 percent clip from the 3-point line. The Falcons continue to lead the MEC in free throw percentage where they shoot 77.9 percent from the foul line. NDC is third in the MEC in rebounding margin as they got four more rebounds than the opposition (45.8-41.8) rebounds per contest.The Falcons are tied for the top team in the nation in blocked shots swatting 6.6 shots per night. Ogom is the teams leading scorer at 15.8 points per contest while the redshirt junior grabs 6.4 rebounds per contest. The Chicago native is tied for fourth in the MEC blocking 1.6 shots per game as well. Adio is off to a solid start to the season. The Richmond Heights product leads the team and is ninth in the MEC dishing out 2.8 assists per game. to go along with his 13.6 points per game scoring average. The junior is fourth in the MEC in minutes played at 32.7 per contest as well. Harris leads the MEC in rebounding grabbing 9.8 rebounds per game to go with his 12.2 points per game scoring average. The Brush product is fourth in the MEC swatting 1.6 shots per contest.
Concord (5-1 1-1 MEC) is coming off a 72-56 win over Salem last time out on Wednesday night. Amare Smith and Corey Boston led the Mountain Lions with 13 points each in the contest, Jordan Wooden and Georges Archer each scored 12 in the victory. As a team Concord scores an MEC ninth best 75.3 points per game but defensively they are giving up an MEC third best 71.2 points per night. The Mountain Lions shoot an MEC fifth best 43.6 percent from the field and are second in the MEC holding the opposition to a 39.9 percent shooting mark. Concord is at the bottom of the conference in 3-point shooting where they shoot 25.9 percent but they are second in the MEC holding the opposition to a 29.2 percent clip from behind the 3-point line. At the free throw line the Mountain Lions shoot an MEC sixth best 73.8 percent. The Mountain Lions are the top rebounding team in the MEC as they dominate the backboards by 7.7 (46.3-38.7) rebounds per contest. Kollin Tolbert leads CU and is 10th in the MEC netting 13.3 points per contest. The Cincinnati product is in the top 10 in the MEC and leads the Mountain Lions dishing out 2.8 assists per night. He also grabs 6.7 rebounds per game and the sophomore is tied for 10th in the MEC getting 1.8 steals per game. Smith gets 13.2 points and pulls down five rebounds per contest. Wooden tallies 11.8 points per game and grabs 4.2 rebounds per contest, while JJ Harper has been a key cog for CU in the early season. Harper puts up 11 points per game, grabs an MEC tied for third best 7.3 rebounds per night and leads the MEC playing 35.3 minutes per game. Rene Diop leads the MEC getting 2.8 blocked shots per game.
