Football Set For Spring Game After Schedule Release.

The Notre Dame College Falcons 2022 football schedule was released last week as they open the first season with Garrett Mack as head coach. Mack takes over for Mickey Mental who moved on to be the offensive coordinator at Division I Weber State. The Falcons will open the 2022 season (sort of) on Saturday with the annual Spring Game. The game is scheduled for 12 PM on Mueller Field. It is the first spring game in South Euclid since 2019.

Offensive lineman Adam Riegler talked about how exciting it will be to be back to some sort of normalcy:

"It's kind of wild to think about because you get used to what we've had to deal with, as fans we're not permitted for a while, "Riegler mentioned. Being able to pack Mueller field again will be nice." He continued about what he is looking forward to the most on Saturday:

"I am looking forward to being able to play a couple live series and get a game like feel, as well as seeing everyone on campus being able to get together again and enjoy some football. As well as being able to watch a little preview of what I feel like will be a very special team this season."

Thursday night 9/1 will be the opener for Mack and the Falcons. Riegler talked about that:

"I can't imagine the atmosphere we are going to have from both schools on opening night at Ashland week one."

The Falcons outlasted the Eagles 42-35 in overtime the last time the two teams faced each other back on 9/4. NDC will face Wheeling in the home opener on 9/10. Reigler talked about how excited he is for that:

"The biggest reason that I came back was the atmosphere that football brings to the campus and the love and passion for this team from the community. I still feel like I have unfinished business here at NDC trying to win that fifth straight MEC Championship as well as the National championship that we've missed out on the past few years that we thought we're good enough to get here at NDC. I am ready to take on a leadership role for this group as well as being more of an impact player along with (Center) Nick Beans on the offensive line. The atmosphere at Mueller Field on Saturday's is like no other. The true love and passion us players and our fan base have for football and the engagement that our fans have every game is second to none."

Last season NDC defeated the Cardinals by a score of 31-15. West Liberty will come to South Euclid the following week. A year ago NDC took care of business against the Hilltoppers by the score of 51-10. On 9/24 NDC will travel to Institute, West Virginia to take on the Yellow Jackets of West Virginia State. The Falcons were a 38-14 winner the last time they played WVSU. The next week is homecoming as the Falcons will look to avenge last season's loss to the University of Charleston. NDC then hits the road for the next two games as they travel to Frostburg State and West Virginia Wesleyan. The Falcons edged Frostburg 23-21 last season and drubbed West Virginia Virginia Wesleyan 52-14. Glenville State comes to Mueller Field on 10/22 and a trip to Fairmont State for the annual Falcon bowl closes out the month of October. Last year NDC defeated Glenville State and Fairmont by a combined score of 89-14. Senior day is 11/5 as NDC will take on a UNC Pembroke team that they beat 45-7 the last time the two teams played. For the second straight season the final game of the regular season will be against Alderson Broaddus. Last year it was a 72-7 win for NDC in South Euclid. This year the game will be in Phillipi, West Virgiinia. The Falcons are coming off an 11-2 season in which they won a MEC record fourth straight conference title. After a 33-25 win over Slippery Rock in the opening round of the playoffs the Falcons were bounced by Shepherd 38-34. The Falcons were a perfect 7-0 on the season at home last season and have not lost a game in South Euclid since 11/19/2019 when Glenville State upset NDC.

Riegler talked about what he learned from the o-lineman who came before him:

"I honestly can't thank those guys enough and everyone who has helped me on this journey to help me be able to enhance my play and be able to excel my game even more. The knowledge of the game i've gained from previous players like Jimmy Burchett, B-Nick (Brandon Nicholson,) Mike Kyle, Austin Treneff is awesome, and I can't wait to show them this year the player I know I can be, as well as this team being the team they know it can be. Those guys have built this program into what it is today. The standard will always be the standard here at NDC and that's championship caliber football and that will never change."
