Getting A Little Payback On Way To Third Straight.

The Notre Dame College Falcons and Frostburg State battled for 40 minutes on Wednesday night, but it was NDC who came away with the 84-76 win that split the season series with the Bobcats. With the win NDC improved to 7-8 on the year, with a third straight win. Frostburg fell to 4-10 with the loss.

Jordan Roland led NDC with 21 points- Jordan Burton had 20- and- Mike Sampson tallied 12 points- and- 16 rebounds in the victory.

Roland talked about how he, and the team used the first meeting between the two teams as fuel:

" I didn't play well and didn't play up to my potential the first time we played. I already knew I had to come out firing on all cylinders, "Roland said.

NDC jumped out to a 14-4 lead as Roland would score 10 of the Falcons first 14 points. Burton- and- John Godinez had the other two.

Richmond talked about the importance of a good start tonight:

" It was big for us to get off to a good start, especially coming off the big win on Monday, and having a quick turnaround. That is a really talented team, especially on offense, so we could not let them get going. We knew we would be in for a 40 minute dog fight. Jordan (Roland) did a good job at finishing in the paint especially early in the game, "Richmond mentioned.

Richmond continued:

"We played well early, and relaxed a bit."

After a Elijah Barnett hlayup at the 11:55 mark of the opening half NDC held a 21-10 lead. Another Barnett jumper three minutes later would give the Falcons a 27-17 advantage. After the Bobcats cut it to six the Falcons would again go up by 10 (35-25) after a Sampson jumper at the 4:21 mark of the first half. The Bobcats would end the half on a 12-2 run to get to within two (39-37.)

Richmond talked about the end of the half:

" We let up a little at the end of the half."

In the opening half NDC shot 53 percent as a team- 50 percent (3-6) from the 3-point line. The Falcons were a perfect four of four at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. Roland led the way with 12 in the opening half- while Elijah Barnett had eight- and- Mike Sampson tallied six points- and- eight rebounds in the opening stanza.

Frostburg shot 45 percent from the field in the first half- 33 percent (5-15) from the 3-point line- and- 80 percent (4-5) at the free throw line. Bartley had 12- and- Johnson nine to lead the Bobcats in the opening stanza.

Edwards knocked downa a 3-pointer to tie the game, but NDC would score the next six points, and lead 45-39 after a put back jam by Tyland Crawford. Then it was the Bobcats turn to go on a run, this one a 12-0 spurt before a Burton 3-pointer cut the lead back to three (51-48) with just under 14 minutes to go. NDC trailed 63-56 with 9:34 to go when Marquise Johnson entered the game. Johnson would provide a spark for athe Falcons as he would score the next eight points, and NDC had a 64-63 lead.

Richmond was pleased with Johnson:

" We were happy with what Marquise gave us tonight. He gave us some energy late in the game. Not only on the offensive end, but he also made some plays on defense. I was really proud of how he changed the game late."

Roland agreed:

"We got a great spark from Quise tonight."

NDC trailed 70-66 at the 4:06 mark, but they would get a Burton 3-pointer- and- a pair of Roland baskets that would give them a lead they would not relinquish at the 1:57 mark. Roland would knock down a 3-pointer- and the Falcons would close this one out at the free throw line.

Richmond talked about Burton tonight:

"Jordan didn't shoot the ball as well as he would have liked, he missed some shots he usually makes. But he impacted the game, and helped us close it out at the free throw line."

Then he talked about Roland:

"Jordan was really good at getting in the paint tonight, and finding others. Then down the stretch he did a good job finishing."

The Falcons shot 49 percent as a team- 38 percent (6-16) from the 3-point line- and- 84 percent (16-19) from the free throw line.

Frostburg was led by Edwards with 26- Johnson added 15- and- Bartley scored 12. As a team the Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field- 32 percent (8-25) from the 3-point line- and- 67 percent (8-12) from the free throw line.

NDC won the rebounding battle 33-26. The Falcons had 12 assists-- and- 11 turnovers. While the Bobcats had eight assists- and- 13 turnovers in this one.

Roland talked about it being a complete team win:

" We played great as a team this game, and rebounded very well, as well as got that spark from "Marquise."

Burton talked about the difference in the feelings from the last time the two teams met:

" The first loss to Frostburg was a tough one, aand this game was kind of similar to the last one. Everyone on our team knew that feeling, and we wanted to change the outcome,"Burton explained.
