MEC Announces Plans For MEC Tournament.

The Mountain East Conference announced on Tuesday that WesBanco Arena in Wheeling,West Va, will serve as the host for the MEC Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments presented by the Health Plan beginning with the Quarterfinals. The small change in the format will see campus sites hosting the opening round. NDC, who is currently fourth in the MEC North, if the season ended today, would host Frostburg State who is the fifth seed in the MEC North on Monday March 1st.

MEC Commisioner Reid Amos was happy to make the announcement:

" We are thrilled to be headed back to Wheeling for the MEC Basketball Tournament, and we're thankful for the work and cooperation of so many people that made coming to WesBanco Arena for the 2021 event possible,"Amos explained.

Amos continued:

" Obviously this tournament will look, and feel different, but we are confident WesBanco Arena once again will provide a great atmosphere for student-athletes. With it's recent experience managing COVID-19 protocols for spectators, we are pleased to be able to welcome MEC Basketball fans to the event."

The top five teams in each division will qualify for the tournament with first round games being played on campus sites. Eight Women's and Eight Men's Teams will then advance to Wheeling for quarterfinal play, beginning with four Women's Games onThursday March 4th, followed by the men's quarterfinals on Friday March 5th. The women's and men's semifinals will continue on Saturday March 6th, and the championship games will be played on Sunday March 7th. Here is what the field would look like if the season ended today.

North 4 (NDC) would host North 5 (Frostburg State ) with the winner getting South 1 (Charleston.)

Friday March 5th North 2 (West Liberty) would play South 3 (West Virginia State.)

On the other side of the bracket South 4 (Concord) would host South 5 (Davis &Elkins) with the winner facing North 1 (Fairmont State.) South 2 (Glenville State) would face North 3 (Alderson Broaddus.) The Semifinals, and Finals take place on 3/6 and 3/7.

On the women's side North 1 (NDC) would play the winner of South 4(West Virginia State) and tSouth 5 (West Virginia Wesleyan.) After the Thursday's Games the women take Friday off, before the Saturday Semifinals, and Sunday Finals.

Both the men's and women's teams from NDC will be back in action tomorrow (2/17) when they travel to Fairmont, West Va. to take on Fairmont State. The women tip at 5 PM, with the men to follow at 7:30.
