NDC Battles Glenville State In MEC Quarterfinal Friday.

The Notre Dame College Falcons (8-8) will take on the Glenville State College Pioneers in the MEC Quarterfinals at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia Friday. Tip time is slated for 11 AM. You can catch all the action at MountainEast.Org

NDC Coach Mark Richmond talked about the matchup:

"We are excited, and our guys will be ready to go at 11 AM on Friday. We like where we are as a team with our improvement, "Richmond explained.

NDC is coming into the contest riding a four game win streak, the last three coming at Murphy Gym. Last time out the Falcons were a 95-85 winner over Alderson Broaddus on Saturday. Tyland Crawford paced the Falcons with 27 points- Jordan Roland added 19- Jordan Burton netted 18- and- Mike Sampson tallied 14 points- and- eight rebounds. The Falcons shot 51 percent from the floor- 50 percent from the 3-point line (9-18-) and- 86 percent (6-7) from the free throw line. The Falcons won the rebounding battle 33-26, and had a season low four turnovers in the victory.

The Falcons are seventh in the MEC in scoring putting up 80.5 points per game- while defensively they are fourth in the MEC giving up 81.4 per contest. NDC is shooting a MEC third best 74 percent from the free throw line- and- a MEC second best 39 percent from the 3-point line. The Falcons are also second in the MEC in rebounding margin out- rebounding the opposition by 4.7 (37.1-32.4) rebounds per night.

Second Team All-MEC member Roland paces NDC putting up 17.6 points per game. The junior from Flint, Mich. is 10th in the MEC dishing out 3.2 assists per game- and- is third in the MEC playing 36.25 minutes per contest. Burton is scoring 14.4 per night. The sophomore from Toledo led the MEC in the regular season shooting 53 percent from the 3-point line. He is also top ten in the conference in both 3-point makes (2.5 per night-) and- free throw percentage (86.5 percent.)

Crawford is scoring 13.4 points per game, to go along with 5.8 rebounds per contest. He is in the top ten in the MEC shooting 86.8 percent from the free throw line. Sampson is averaging 11.4 points per game- to go with 10.3 rebounds per contest. Sampson leads the MEC in both field goal percentage (73 percent-) and- offensive rebounds (3.5 per night.)

Crawford talked about where the team is going into the tournament:

"We are feeling pretty good now. We had a few days off to let our bodies heal. I feel like we can beat anybody right now. We will be ready to go at 11 AM on Friday, "Crawford mentioned.

The Pioneers (8-3) split the last two games of the season after a pair of Covid pauses in the program. The last time out Glenville was a 100-81 winner over Concord on Saturday. John Williams led the way with 33- Nick Edwards tallied 26- and- both Zane Desouza (11 points-) and- Tommy Williams (10) scored in double figures. GSC shot 53 percent from the field- 30 percent (10-33) from the 3-point line- and- 59 percent (16-27) at the free throw line.

The Pioneers come into the tournament second in the MEC scoring more than 97 points per night- while they are 11th in the conference giving up more than 92 points per contest. Glenville is ninth in the MEC shooting 33 percent from the 3-point line, but they lead the conference making 12 3-pointer's per contest. They are also third in the MEC in rebounding margin, grabbing 1.9 more rebounds than the opposition

Williams leads the team, and MEC in scoring at 27.6 points per game. He is also grabbing seven rebounds per night, and shooting 39 percent from the 3-point line. Hegel Augustin is eighth in the MEC getting 20.4 points per contest, while he is fourth in the MEC grabbing 9.2 rebounds per night. Edwards is scoring 18.6 points per game- and- is second in the MEC dishing out 7.1 assists per night. He is also leading the conference in steals at 2.7 per night. All three were selected First-Team All-MEC.

In the first meeting between the two teams back on 2/3 Glenville was a 91-80 winner at the Waco Center. Glenville was led in that game by Williams with 28- Augustin had 27- and- Edwards added 15. They shot 43 percent from the field- 29 percent (12-42) from the 3-point line- and- 74 percent (23-31) from the free throw line in the contest.

NDC was led by a trio of players in double figures that day. Roland led the way with 18 points- Sampson tallied 15 points- and- 14 rebounds, while John Godinez added 14. NDC shot 51 percent from the field- 33 percent (6-18) from the 3-point line- and- 77 percent (10-13) from the free throw line.

The two teams have never met in the MEC Tournament. NDC is 8-6 all time against the Pioneers.
