NDC Edges Concord.

The Notre Dame College Falcons and Concord Mountain Lions did battle at Murphy Gym on Saturday. The Falcons came away with a 63-61 win to improve to 5-1 and 3-1 in the MEC. Concord dropped to 4-5 and 2-2 in the MEC as they saw a three game win streak snapped. Coach Mark Richmond talked about how his team was fortunate to win this one:

" It was a tough turnaround for us. We did not get back from Glenville until 4 AM on Thursday. I am particularly proud that we found a way to win this one. Nobody on our team played their best game but we still got it done, "Richmond explained.

The two teams both came out flat to start this one, especially on the offensive end. NDC led 6-3 at the first media timeout of the contest. The Mountain Lions would lead 14-8 midway through the opening stanza. Daylin Lee would hit a pair of 3-pointer's late in the first half to give NDC a 22-21 lead with 3:50 in the first half. The lead would change hands on a couple occasions before a Barker 3-pointer and a layup by Mike Kirkland would put the Falcons up 29-25. The Falcons would go into halftime with a 31-28 lead.

Richmond talked about the first half:

"For whatever reason we were not ready to go today. I think it was a combination of getting back real late from Glenville, and then the girls game going a couple of overtimes."

The Falcons shot 44 percent from the field, 45 percent from the 3-point line (5-11) and went 2-3 at the free throw line. Barker led NDC with 10 points in the first half, while Lee added six.

Concord was led by Matt Weir with 13 in the opening half. They shot 29 percent from the field, 29 percent (4-14) from the 3-point line, and 40 percent (4-10) at the free throw line.

Richmond talked a little more about the first half:

" I thought we over penetrated in the opening half.

A 3-pointer by Weir at the 17:11 mark would tie the game at 33. The Falcons would then score the next four points as John Godinez hit a jumper and Tyland Crawford would hit a pair of free throws. The game would again be knotted at 41 After a layup by Crawford and then a steal and bucket by Mike Sampson NDC took a 45-41 at the 11:24 mark. Jaedon Willis then knocked down a triple and was fouled. The free throw was no good and the score remained 48-41 . Concord get to within two (49-47) before a Willis 3-pointer made it a five point game (52-47) with 5:40 to go. After Daylin Lee split a pair of free throws Crawford knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a seven point game (56-49) with 4:09 on the clock. A three-point play by Davion Moore would cut the lead to four (56-52) but a Lee layup made it 58-52 with 2:49 to go. Weir knocked down another 3-pointer at the 1:22 mark but a pair of Lee free throws made it 60-55 with one minute to go. Weir hit another 3-pointer with 13 seconds left , and Willis would put NDC up four (62-58) with 11 seconds to go. Darius Parham got the Mountain Lions within one (62-61) after his 3-pointer fell with six seconds left. Crawford split a pair of free throws and the desperation heave by Concord sealed it for NDC.

The Falcons were led by 16 points and four steals from Willis. He was one of four players in double figures. Crawford had 12, Lee added 11, and Barker scored all 10 of his points in the first 20 minutes. NDC shot 40 percent from the field, 36 percent (8-22) from the 3-point line, and 65 percent (13-20) at the free throw line. The Falcons were out-rebounded 47-35. They had 10 assists, and 14 turnovers in the contest.

Richmond talked rebounding:

"We gave up 17 offensive rebounds, that is entirely too many.'

Concord was led by Weir who scored 27 points as he was 7-12 from the 3-point line. Rahama added 10 to go along with 10 rebounds of his own. The Mountain Lions shot 35 percent from the field, 31 percent (9-29) from the 3-point line, and 47 percent (8-17) from the free throw line. They had six assists and 15 turnovers in this one.

Richmond talked about Daylin Lee being key today:

"Daylin was a big key today. He got some key rebounds down the stretch. He had the one that he kicked out to Jeadon for the 3-pointer and was solid today. "

He continued about the team:

"We were pretty balanced today. Nobody played their best game but we found a way to win. Sometimes not everything clicks and you have to win a game when you don't play your best. We will need to be better against Lourdes on Monday."

That game between NDC and Lourdes will tip at 6 PM on Monday night.
