NDC Falls at Wesleyan.

A tough night for the Notre Dame College Falcons at the Rockefeller Center Wednesday night saw the Falcons fall 90-63 to West Virginia Wesleyan College. With the loss NDC fell to 7-14 and 5-10 in the MEC. The Bobcats improved to 8-13 and 7-8 in the MEC after the victory.
For the second straight game NDC dug themselves an early hole. This time it was a 12-0 start in favor of WVWC in the early going. The Falcons would battle back and after a 16-3 run take a 16-15 lead after a Dan Lott layup at the 11:55 mark of the opening half. NDC would lead 21-17 with a 3-pointer by Drew Scarberry with 8:27 in the opening stanza. Bruce Hodges would tie the game with a layup at the 6:24 mark of the half. It would be 32-29 in favor of the Bobcats after the first half.
NDC was led by Burton with eight points- and- Scarberry with six in the opening stanza. NDC shot 43 percent in the first half- while shooting 38 percent (5-13) from the 3-point line- and- 43 percent (3-7) from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.
The Bobcats shot 42 percent in the first half- 36 percent (5-14) from the 3-point line- and- 0-4 from the free throw line in the half. Luka Petrovic had nine- while Daaylin Lee had eight in the first 20 minutes.
The second half was all Bobcats as they shot 71 percent from the field- 77 percent (7-9) from the 3-point line- and- 63 percent (12-19) at the free throw line. On the other side the Falcons offense was held to 35 percent shooting- just eight percent (1-12) from the 3-point line- and- 86 percent (18-21) from the free throw line.
Frankland would score a quick bucket to pull NDC within one (31-30) but then it would be a 8- 0 spurt by the Bobcats that made it 39-30. NDC would be within seven (41-34) after a pair of Scarberry free throws but a 16-2 run by Wesleyan would put this one out of reach.
NDC was led by Scarberry with 19 points- Frankland added 14- while Burton contributed 11 points- and- five assists. They shot 39 percent as a team- 24 percent (6-25) from the 3-point line- and- 75 percent (21-28) at the free throw line. The Falcons had 10 assists- and- 15 turnovers in the contest.
Coach Mark Richmond talked about what he saw:
" We gave up to many paint points- did not value the basketball- and- did not shoot it well."Richmond explained.
WVWC was led by 23 points- nine rebounds- and- six assists from Petrovic- Lee had 16- Garcia added 15- Clay Todd netted 13- and- Ross Young contributed 10. The Bobcats shot 56 percent from the field- 52 percent (12-23) from the 3-point line- and- 52 percent (12-23) from the free throw line. They dominated the boards winning that battle 39-24. The Bobcats had 20 assists- and- just seven turnovers in this one.
NDC will be back in action Saturday when they host Davis and Elkins. Tip time is set for 4 PM at Murphy Gym.
