NDC Heads To GSU For MEC Clash

The Notre Dame College Falcons head to Glenville, West Virginia to take on the Glenville State University Pioneers tomorrow (2/10) at the Waco Center. Tip time is set for 3 PM. You can catch all the action on MountainEast.TV

"Another tough road test at Glenville State, "NDC head coach Mark Richmond mentioned. "Didn't play our best last time against these guys so we'll have to make some adjustments and give great effort on the road. Turbo Smith is one of the most dynamic guards in our so league so we'll have to make things difficult on him. Offensively we need to continue to share the ball and execute in critical situations to start being able to close some of these games out."

NDC (10-10 5-9 MEC) is coming off a 87-79 home loss to Concord on Wednesday night. Trent Williams tied a season high with 20 points, Andre Harris added 15, and R.J.Ogom tallied 12 in the loss. NDC shot 42.5 percent from the field, 44 percent (11-25) from the 3-point line, and 75 percent (6-8) from the free throw line in the contest. As a team the Falcons average 82.4 points per game which is sixth in the MEC, shoot an MEC eighth best 45 percent from the floor, shoot an MEC sixth best 35.2 percent from the 3-point line, dish out an MEC third best 15.33 assists per game while they are sixth in turnover margin and fifth in assist to turnover ratio. The Falcons are at the bottom of the MEC shooting at a 70.1 percent clip from the free throw line. On the defensive end they give up an MEC seventh best 82.7 points per game, hold the opposition to 44.8 percent shooting (seventh in the MEC,) are ninth in the conference at guarding the 3-point line (35.5 percent,) block an MEC third best 4.55 shots per game which is top 25 in the country, and are -0.8 (37.9-38.7) rebounds per night. Devin Haid leads the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game. The redshirt sophomore is second on the team grabbing 5.6 rebounds per night, shoots 82.6 percent from the free throw line (seventh in the MEC,) while the Wooster native is eighth in the MEC in both steals per game (1.5) and blocks per contest (one per contest.) Harris scores 12.3 points per game and grabs an MEC seventh best 6.4 rebounds per game. Ogom puts up 10.7 points per game and shoots an MEC best 89.5 percent from the free throw line. Gbolahan Adio rounds out the double figure scorers at 10.2 points per game and dishes out a team leading 2.5 assists per night. In the first meeting with the Pioneers (NDC lost in overtime) Harris put up 22 points and 11 rebounds, Adio had 17 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, Cameron Johnson added 12, and Ogom put up 11 points to go with seven rebounds.

"We need to take care of the ball and finish games," NDC junior guard Josh Dames said.

Glenville State (11-10 6-7 MEC) is coming off a 77-74 win over Salem Wednesday night. Jordan "Turbo" Smith led the Pioneers with 23 points, Dominiq Penn added 14, and Devin Collins added 12. GSU shot 45.2 percent from the field, 38.7 percent (12-31) from the 3-point line, and 75 percent (9-12) from the free throw line. The Pioneers are scoring an MEC fourth best 83.6 points per game, shoot an MEC 10th best 42.8 percent an MEC seventh best 35.1 percent from the 3-point line, shooting an MEC 10th best 70.5 percent from the free throw line. On the defensive side of things the Pioneers give up an MEC eighth best 85.4 points per game, allow 44.2 percent shooting from the field (fifth in the MEC,) are seventh in the MEC guarding the 3-point line (34.7 percent) and are eighth in the MEC being out rebounded by 1.5 (41.3-42.8) rebounds per game. The Pioneers block an MEC fifth best 3.71 shots per game, while they are also fifth in the conference in assists per game (14.38),) fifth in turnover margin and fourth in assist to turnover ratio as a team. Smith leads the Pioneers scoring 14.3 points per game which is tied for ninth in the MEC, 42.6 percent shooting which is good for 10th in the MEC, he is sixth in the MEC getting 1.6 steals per game, and is eighth in assist to turnover ratio. Penn puts up 13.2 points per game, while he is second in the MEC shooting 41 percent from the 3-point line, and third in triples per game (2.6) per contest. Collins puts up 13 points per night, grabs 5.8 rebounds per contest which is 10th in the MEC, and is tied for sixth in the MEC knocking down 2.2 treys per contest. Remy Lemovou anchors the Pioneers defense in the post blocking an MEC tied for sixth best 1.1 blocks per night. In the first meeting back in November Smith poured in a game high 32 points, Jaelin Johnson added 20, Jay Scott added 11, and Collins netted 10. GSU shot 40.7 percent from the floor, 32.3 percent (10-31) from the 3-point line and 66.7 percent (8-12) from the free throw line in that one.
