NDC Heads To West Virginia State.

The Notre Dame College Falcons will hit the road for the second last road trip of the regular season as they battle the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets inside the Walker Convocation Center Saturday afternoon. The game is slated to tip at 4 PM.

NDC senior Bruce Hodges talked about having a little extra motivation for this one:

" Being that I didn't get to finish that game hurt because I wanted to be out there with my team. We are a much better team since that game though."Hodges mentioned.

Fellow senior Drew Scarberry agreed:

" Definitely extra motivation! We are a much better team like Bruce said. We need to come in and control the pace for 40 minutes."Scarberry stated.

Coach Mark Richmond talked about the importance of rebounding and keeping WVSU out of transition in this one:

"We have been preacheing rebounding all season long and it is very important in this game. Another big thing against this team is we need to protect the ball and prevent the run outs- especially with as good as they are at home."Richmond explained.

NDC (9-16 7-12 MEC) is coming off a 88-70 loss to Charleston that snapped the Falcons five game home win streak. Jordan Burton had a career high 21 points- while DeAnthony Owens poured in 21 of his own- Scarberry (12-) and- Hodges (10) also scored in double figures. The Falcons shot 47 percent from the field- 33 percent (5-15) from the 3-point line- and- 79 percent (11-14) at the free throw line in the contest. The Falcons are sixth in the conference in scoring averaging 77.6 points per game- while defensively they give up 79.6 points per night which is also sixth in the MEC. On the glass the Falcons are being narrowly out rebounded 34.0-34.2 for the season which is sixth in margin in the conference.

Levi Frankland leads the team in scoring at 17.2 points per game- he is shooting a MEC sixth best 54 percent from the field- is shooting at a 42 percent clip from the 3-point line-and- is eighth in the MEC making 2.2 3-pointer's per night. Owens is averaging 16.3 points per game- leads the team in rebounding at 6.2 rebounds per night- while he shoots 49 percent from the field- 41 percent from the 3-point line- and- is in the top 10 in free throw percentage shooting at a 78 percent clip from the free throw line. Scarberry is averaging 15.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest- shoots 46 percent from the field- 35 percent from the 3-point line- and- 76 percent at the free throw line. Scarberry is sixth in the MEC making 2.4 3-pointer's per contest. Burton is averaging 9.8 points- 3.8 rebounds- and- a MEC seventh best 3.5 assists per contest. Both Hodges and Frankland lead the team in steals at 0.9 per game.

The Yellow Jackets (17-7 12-7 MEC) are 12-2 at home on the season. They are coming off a 90-87 overtime loss at Urbana in the first leg of the teams Ohio swing. Jeremiah Moore led the way with 18 points- Glen Abram added 16- Michal Seals and Frank Ageymang each tallied 14- while Anthony Pittman tallied a double-double with 12 points- and- 12 rebounds. The Yellow Jackets shot 44 percent from the field- 39 percent (11-28) from the 3-point line- and- 70 percent (14-20) from the free throw line. The Yellow Jackets are second in the MEC scoring 93.5 points per game- while defensively they are last in the MEC giving up 89 points per contest. One place WVSU has an advantage is at the free throw line as they shoot 3.3 more free throws than the opposition (17.8-14.5.) WVSU is being out rebounded by two boards per game (38.1-40.1) which makes them eighth in the MEC in rebounding margin. The Yellow Jackets are getting 9.4 steals per game as a team as well.

Abram leads the season box score and is fifth in the MEC averaging 18.5 points per game. Moore averages 16.3 points per game- while he leads the team and is fifth in the MEC grabbing 7.9 rebounds per night. Pittman averages 15.5 points per game- and- is sixth in the MEC in rebounding at 7.8 rebounds per contest. Seals is scoring 12.7 points per game- and- is fourth in the MEC in assists at 4.9 per game.

The Yellow Jackets won the first meeting between the two teams 94-85 back in January.
