NDC Hosts Redhawks In Home Opener Tuesday.

The Notre Dame College Falcons (2-0) take on the Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks (1-1) in the Falcons home opener Tuesday night. The game will tip at 5:30 PM. You can catch all the action on NotreDameFalcons.com

NDC opened the season with a pair of victories in the Conference Challenge at Joe Retton Arena over the weekend. In the opener a late jumper by Will Vorhees led the Falcons to a 77-75 win over Slippery Rock. Vorhees, the reigning MEC Player Of The Week led the Falcons with 29 points and 14 rebounds in the victory. Angelo Cugini also recorded a double-double Friday with 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds, including a pair of big 3-pointer's in the games final three minutes. Isaiah Sanders also scored in double figures in his first collegiate game. On Saturday the Falcons were a 73-61 winner over Cal (PA.) After a slow start that saw the Falcons score just five points in the games first 10 minutes Halil Parks came up big for the Falcons and ended up scoring a game high 26 points. Vorhees added 16 points and 10 rebounds- while Sanders scored in double figures for the second straight game with 13 points.

Roberts Wesleyan was a 79-69 winner over Nyack College on Friday night. Justin Vaughan paced five Redhawks in double figures with 19 points- Jean Touissant added 17- Peyton McLaurin scored 16- Michael Bush chipped in 12- and- Isaiah Lewis had 11 in the victory. The Redhawks shot 43 percent from the field, and 33 percent (8-24) from the 3-point line. They shot at a 80 percent clip (17-20) from the free throw line. The Redhawks won the rebounding battle 42-32. They had 14 assists and 16 turnovers in the contest.

On Saturday afternoon the Redhawks were a 84-70 loser to Caldwell. Once again the Redhawks had four players score in double figures. Bush and Fope Okuyiga each netted 12 points- while Vaughan and Armon Nasseri each tallied 11. The Redhawks shot 40 percent from the field in the loss, including 29 percent (8-28) from the 3-point line. They also struggled at the free throw line where they shot at a 64 percent clip (18-28.) The Redhawks were out rebounded 44-33.

NDC redshirt junior Drew Scarberry talked about what it will be like to be at home Tuesday:

" We are very excited to be able to play in front of our home crowd. Looking forward to showing everyone what we are about and really focusing on going 1-0 on the day."

Coach Tim Koenig had a similar take to Scarberry:

" We are happy to be back home. We are excited for our home opener. We are looking forward to seeing the Notre Dame College community, family/friends, and our season ticket holders in the gym with us. Roberts Wesleyan poses a lot of matchup problems and are a very skilled basketball team. It will be a tough challenge tonight but our goal is to go 1-0."
