NDC Renews Rivalry With Fairmont State Saturday

The Notre Dame College Falcons (7-7 3-6 MEC) and the Fairmont State Fighting Falcons (11-4 4-4 MEC) renew an intense rivalry on Saturday afternoon at Murphy Gym. Tip time is scheduled for 4 PM and you can catch all the action on MountainEast.TV

"We look forward to an opportunity to get out there against a good team and I look forward to seeing how we respond as a team after having some success on Wednesday night," NDC head coach Mark Richmond explained.

"We just have to stick together for all 40 minutes and we should be in good shape," NDC senior Trent Williams mentioned.

NDC is coming off a 108-78 win at Frostburg State on Wednesday night. A game in which head coach Mark Richmond said the Falcons put together the best 40 minutes they have had to this point in the season. Williams knocked down six triples on his way to 20 points as the team shot 61.2 percent from the field which was the fifth best single game shooting percentage in program history. Gbolahan Adio scored 15 points and dished out a career high tying seven assists, both Josh Dames and Cameron Johnson scored 12 points as they both started for NDC for the first time this season, Devin Haid added 11, while both Andre Harris and Trent Blackshire tallied 10. NDC also dominated the glass out rebounding the Bobcats 40-23 in the victory. On offense NDC scores 83.9 points per game (fourth in the MEC,) shoots 46.4 percent from the field (third in the MEC,) shoots 33.5 percent from the 3-point line (ninth in the conference,) shoots 71.6 percent from the free throw line (ninth in the MEC,) and is being out-rebounded by 1.2 (38.4-39.6) rebounds per contest. On defense the Falcons give up 83.1 points per game (eighth MEC,) 43.4 percent from the field (fifth MEC,) 35.6 percent from the 3-point line (eighth in the MEC.) NDC is seventh in turnover margin and sixth in assist to turnover ratio. They block an MEC third best 4.93 shots per game which is 17th in the country and dish out an MEC fourth best 15.57 assists per night. NDC is also 22nd in the country as they score 16.46 fast break points per game. Haid continues to lead the team in several categories. The redshirt sophomore scores an MEC 10th best 14.3 points per game, is seventh in field goal percentage (47 percent,) blocks an MEC sixth best 1.1 shots pet game, gets an MEC fifth best 1.7 steals per game, and plays an MEC 10th best 28.9 minutes per night. The Wooster product also leads the MEC and is fourth in the country shooting 93.6 percent from the free throw line. Harris gets 12.9 points per game, grabs an MEC fifth best 6.6 rebounds per night, and the Brush product shoots an MEC sixth best 47.6 percent from the field. RJ Ogom scores 12.5 points per game and shoots 93.2 percent from the free throw line which is second in the MEC and sixth in the country. Adio rounds out the double digit scorers at 11.6 per contest.

Fairmont is coming off a 72-47 win over Salem on Wednesday night. Tommy Williams and David Jolinder each scored 14, Zyon Dobbs added 13, Tyheil Peterson tallied 11 and Cameron Whiteside tallied 10. As a team Fairmont shot 38.4 percent from the field, 26.3 percent (10-38) from the 3-point line and 66.7 percent (6-9) from the free throw line. On offense Fairmont shoots 44.8 percent from the field (sixth in the MEC,) 34.3 percent from the 3-point line (seventh in the MEC,) 71.9 percent at the free throw line (eighth in the MEC.) While on defense they are allowing 43.6 percent shooting (sixth in the MEC,) 37.6 percent 3-point shooting (10th MEC,) and on the glass they are +1.4 (38.4-37.0) rebounds per night which is sixth in the MEC. The Fairmont Falcons are second in turnover margin and third in assist to turnover ratio. They block an MEC ninth best three shots per game and dish out an MEC third best 15,6 assists per night. Dobbs scores an MEC sixth best 15.3 points per night and plays an MEC leading 33.4 minutes per contest. Jolinder is eighth in the MEC getting 14.8 points per game and is ninth shooting 45.9 percent from the floor. Williams gets 13.5 per contest, shoots 40.9 percent from the 3-point line which is third in the MEC and The Glenville State transfer leads the MEC making 3.2 triples per game. He gets 1.6 steals per game which is sixth in the MEC and plays 30.4 minutes per game which is sixth in the MEC. Whiteside scores 13.1 points per game. The Virginia Wise transfer gets 3.7 assists per game which is sixth in the MEC. and he is fourth in assist to turnover ratio. His 1.5 steals per game are eighth in the MEC. Seth Younkin leads the MEC grabbing 7.8 rebounds per game while Peterson is shooting an MEC sixth best 86.7 percent from the free throw line. Jaidyn West also joins his teammate Williams getting 1.5 steals per night.

"We have been playing much better on defense and sharing the ball better since this seven out of eight stretch began, NDC is a very tough place to play though," Fairmont State head coach Tim Koenig stated.
