NDC Shoots Well in Losing Effort.

For the third straight game the Notre Dame College Falcons faced a team in the top half of the Mountain East Conference standings. On Saturday it was the University of Charleston- who is on top of the conference along with West Liberty. For the third straight game the Falcons shot the ball well- but it was a different story in this one as they fell 95-70 inside the Werhle Innovation Center.

DeAnthony Owens led the Falcons (4-12 2-8 MEC)- and- all scorers with 26 points- Levi Frankland netted 20- and- Drew Scarberry chipped in 10- to go along with six rebounds. The Falcons shot 52 percent from the floor- 53 percent (8-15) from the 3-point line- and- 67 percent (8-12) from the free throw line. For the first time in nine games the Falcons were out rebounded- as the Golden Eagles won the rebounding battle 33-19. NDC had nine assists- and- 10 turnovers as a team in this one.

Drew Rackley paced the Golden Eagles (14-2 8-2) with 21 points- Seth O'Neal netted 20- Eddie Colbert knocked down five 3-pointer's on his way to 17 points- LaMont McManus had 13- and- Caleb Martin scored 10. Devon Robinson led the Golden Eagles on the glass with 15 rebounds to go with his nine points. UC shot 59 percent from the floor- 52 percent (17-33) from the 3-point line- and- 91 percent (10-11) at the free throw line. UC had 14 assists- and- 10 turnovers as a team.

For the second straight game the Falcons were short-handed. Without the services of Larenz Thurman- and- Bruce Hodges Daniel Lott got his first career start on Saturday. Seth O'Neal began the game with a layup- but Frankland responded with a 3-pointer to put NDC on top. The next five went to the Golden Eagles before a Frankland jumper. Lott would score- and- then a Frankland hoop would tie the game at nine with 16:30 in the half. The game would again be tied at 13 after Owens scored at the 14:21 mark of the opening stanza. After a Robinson dunk- NDC would take the lead on a Scarberry 3-pointer at the 13:36 mark (16-15.) The Golden Eagles would stretch the lead to 10 (31-21) after a pair of Rackley free throws at the 5:53 mark of the half. Jordan Burton knocked down a pair of free throws before another Rackley triple. Frankland would get the Falcons within single digits- but Colbert knocked down a 3-ball to make it 37-25 at the 3:02 mark of the half. Owens hit a pair of free throws- but a 3-pointer by Martin- and- another by Rackley stretched the lead to 16 (43-27.) It would be 50-35 Charleston at the half.

Frankland led the Falcons with 15 in the opening half- while Owens had nine. NDC shot 46 percent from the field- 50 percent from the 3-point line (3-6-) and- 75 percent (6-8) at the free throw line in the first 20 minutes. They were out rebounded 17-11 in the opening half.

Charleston was led by Rackley with 12- while O'Neal scored 11 in the first half. They shot 60 percent from the field- 63 percent (10-16) from the 3-point line- and- a perfect four of four at the foul line in the first 20 minutes.

Scarberry made a layup at the 13:29 mark as the Falcons were down 15 (61-46) but then the Golden Eagles showed why they are on top of the conference as they would go on a 11-2 run to stretch the lead to 24 (72-48.) Charleston would cruise to victory from that point on.

NDC will be back in action Wednesday when they host Wheeling. Tip time from Murphy Gym is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
