NDC Travels To Fairmont For Battle Of The Falcons.

NDC Coach Mark Richmond talked about the challenge ahead:

" We have a great challenge ahead of us against Fairmont State. Playing them twice in five days makes it unique. They are as talented as any team in Division II basketball,"Richmond explained.

NDC (4-7) is coming off a 89-84 loss to West Liberty on Saturday. Jordan Burton led five Falcons in double figures with 21 points. Mohamed Alkadi added a season high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds- Tyland Crawford also scored in double figures with 14- while both Mike Sampson- and- Jordan Roland added 10. NDC shot 48 percent from the field- 47 percent (7-15) from the 3-point line- and- 77 percent (17-22) from the free throw line. As a team NDC is scoring a MEC ninth best 77.5 points per game- while on defense they are allowing a MEC fifth best 80.7 points per night. The NDC Falcons are fifth in the MEC shooting 47 percent from the field- while they are second in the conference shooting at a 37 percent clip from the 3-point line. NDC is also fourth in the MEC in rebounding margin out rebounding the opponent by 3.5 (37.9-34.4) rebounds per contest.

Roland leads the season box score, as he leads the team in points per game (17.4 -) and- assists per night (3.4-) which is good for eighth in the MEC. The junior from Flint, Mich. is also fourth in the MEC in minutes played at 35.3 per game. Burton continues to lead the MEC in 3-point percentage (51 percent-) and- is contributing 14.1 points per contest. The sophomore from Toledo is also fifth in the MEC in free throw shooting as he is making 86 percent of his shots at the foul line. Crawford is putting up 12.7 points per game to go along with 5.7 rebounds per night- while Sampson is netting 10 points per game- and- is fourth in the MEC grabbing a team leading 9.5 rebounds per contest.

Fairmont State Coach Tim Koenig talked aboutt NDC:

"They have two of the best guards in the league in Burton, and Roland. They will spread you out, and their bigs are hard to guard, "Koenig said.

Fairmont State (8-2) is coming off a 87-73 win over Wheeling last time out. Reigning MEC Player of the Week Dale Bonner led the Fairmont State Falcons with 29 points- Isaiah Sanders added 20- and- Zyon Dobbs netted 17. Fairmont shot 50 percent from the field- 44 percent (11-25) from the 3-point line- and- 95 percent (18-19) from the free throw line. The Fighting Falcons are third in the MEC both offensively (90.5 points per game-) and- defensively (75.5 points per contest.) They are also second in the MEC in rebounding margin, as they are getting 7.3 more rebounds than the opposition (44.9-37.6.)

Richmond talked about Fairmont being balanced on both ends:

" They are outscoring their opponents by 15 points per game. They have a high-powered offense, but they are also one of the better defensive teams in our league".

Bonner is 10th in the MEC, and leads the Fightiing Falcons in scoring at 18.9 points per night. The sophomore from Cleveland Heights is also fourth in assists per game (5.1-) and- second in steals per night (2.3.) Sanders averages 17.6 points per contest to go along with 7.2 rebounds per night. Cole Von Handorf is putting up 14.2 per game- while Dobbs is contributing 11.2 per night. Przemyslaw Golek is also averaging in double figures at 10 points per contest.

Richmond gave his final thought about NDC:

" We will have to do a great job of taking care of the basketball against their pressure, and as always rebound the basketball".

Koenig gave his final thought:

"We will have to play great basketball to win tonight. NDC is playing well, they were in a tie game with West Lib with a minute to go. Our goal today is to go 1-0."
