NDC Welcomes Wheeling In MEC Opener Saturday.

The Notre Dame College Men's basketball Falcons welcome the Wheeling University Cardinals to Murphy Gym in the conference opener for both teams. Tip time is set for 4 PM and you can catch all the action on the Mountain East Digital Network on MountainEast.TV

NDC Head Coach Mark Richmond gave his thoughts:

"We are looking forward to our conference opener on Saturday afternoon against Wheeling, "Richmond mentioned.

NDC (1-2) is coming off a 102-66 thrashing of Bryant& Stratton (Buffalo) in the home opener on Wednesday night. The Falcons were paced by Jaedon Willis with 21 points. They scored 61 points and shot 62 percent from the field in the second half.

Willis talked about the conference opener:

"We need to start fast and be the aggressors from the beginning, "Willis said. "We need to make them play our game."

Playing there game is exactly what the Falcons made the Bobcats do. NDC saw 13 of the 14 players who saw action on Wednesday score. Six players other than Willis scored at least nine points in the contest. NDC now averages 82.3 points per game in the young season while they allow 82.7 per night. They shoot 48.7 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from the 3-point line. They have struggled at the foul line as they are shooting at a 66.1 percent clip.

Willis is the only Falcon averaging double figures as he is pouring in 23 points per night. Tyland Crawford is averaging nine points per game while DeAirius Barker is putting up 8.7 per contest. Barker also leads the team in rebounding (5.7 per game) and assists (3.66 per contest.)

Richmond talked about the keys tomorrow:

"We need to continue to work in all areas but specifically defensively and taking care of the ball will be key in this game."

Wheeling (1-2) is coming off a 73-58 win over D'Youville last time out. WU was led by Brent Price with 22, John Korte added 18, and Andrew Taylor tallied 12. They shot 46.2 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from the 3-point line as well as 73.9 percent (17-23) from the free throw line in the win.

Richmond talked about Wheeling:

"They had a nice win earlier this week at home and are very well coached."


The Cardinals score 73 points per game while they give up 72.3 per night. They shoot 46.7 percent from the field and 36.9 percent from the 3-point line. They shoot 76.5 percent from the free throw line as well. They narrowly holding the advantage on the boards in the young season (30.3-30 per game.)

Price leads three players in double figures averaging 16.7 points per contest, Marcus Johnson puts up 16.3 per game, and Korte scores 14.7 per night. Korte and Drive share the team leading grabbing 5.3 rebounds per night, while Price leads WU in assists at (3.33 per game.)


Richmond gave the final thought:

"I know our guys are excited for another opportunity to get back out there and compete."
