Pioneers Outlast NDC.

The Notre Dame College Falcons went back and forth much of the night with the Glenville State College Pioneers at the Waco Center on Wednesday. Ultimately it would be the home team that would come away with the 91-80 win. With the victory Glenville State improved to 6-1 on the year, while NDC fell to 2-5 on the season with the loss.

It would be Glenville State College that jumped out to a 16-7 lead after a Tommy Williams 3-pointer with just under 16 minutes left in the opening half. That was after a Godinez basket, a 3-pointer by Coye Campbell that gave NDC the lead, and a bucket by Colby Dillenbeck. After a Roland jumper at the 3:30 mark NDC would enjoy a 10 point lead (40-30.) Then Luke Lerose and Campbell would trade 3-pointer's. The Pioneers closed the half on a 7-0 run in the last 2:50.

Coach Mark Richmond talked about his team's execution in the first half, and needing to close out the half better:

" The first half we executed our game plan. We took care of the ball, and rebounded. We played some zone to limit dribble penetration, and it helped us at times. We have to learn to close out halves better,"Richmond explained.

The Pioneers shot 41 percent from the field- and- 20 percent from the 3-point line in the first stanza. John Williams led Glenville with 14 points- while Hegel Augustin added 11.

The second half began as the Pioneers went ahead 50-48 four and a half minutes in. The teams would go back and forth for the next several minutes as NDC led 61-60 after a Roland jumper at the 10:37 mark. Jordan Burton would hit a jumper, and then a Burton 3-pointer would knot the game at 66 with 7:35 left on the clock. GSC would go on a 8-0 run before a Godinez 3-pointer cut the lead to five two minutes later. The Falcons would get it to five on a pair of occasions but that is as close as they would get as the Pioneers came away with the victory.

NDC had three players in double figures in the contest, led by 18 points from Roland. Sampson added his second double-double of the season with 15 points, and 14 rebounds, while Godinez had 14 of his own. The Falcons shot 51 percent from the field- 33 percent (6-18) from the 3-point line- and- 77 percent (10-13) from the free throw line. The Falcons had 13 assists- and- 15 turnovers in the contest.

Glenville was paced by 28 points and nine rebounds from John Williams, they also got 27 from Hegel Augustin, and Nick Edwards had 15 points- and- 13 assists in the contest. They also won the rebounding battle 42-33.

Roland talked about the difference in the game:

" We had too many turnovers in the second half, and we got out rebounded,"Roland mentioned.

Richmond agreed:

" We made way too many mistakes down the stretch. It's a 40 minute game. We have to stay focused and disciplined the entire time."
