Roland Has Solid Night- and- Falcons Win Rebounding Battle In Loss To Charleston.

The Notre Dame College Falcons (0-3) got 21 points from Jordan Roland- and won the rebounding battle 37-31 but were a 83-60 loser to the University Of Charleston (2-2) at Murphy Gymnasium on Saturday night.

Roland went 8-15 from the floor- and- 4-5 from the free throw line in the defeat.

Coach Mark Richmond talked about how excited the team is about Roland, and where he hopes to improve:

"We are really excited about Jordan. He has not shot the ball from the outside like he had hoped so far. The guy hadn't played a game in two years before this season,"Richmond explained.

The game got off to a solid start for the Falcons as they led 8-0 early. They had a 8-3 lead after the first media timeout.

Richmond talked about what changed after that:

" The first group was not ready to go for Charleston. We came out and played well as a group. Then they subbed all five guys out, and for whatever reason our guys relaxed or exhaled for a second and we were down double digits. We have had trouble sustaining things. We are not executing on both ends. Our passes are not on time or on target. As for defensively, we tell guys what is going to happen and then it happens. This is the third game in a row. At some point we are going to have to take away the teams strengths. Until that happens it is going to be hard for us to win any games."

Richmond talked about how the team did do some good things defensively:

"We made it an emphasis to take away #33 (McManus.) He is as big and strong as anyone in our league. He only took seven shots, but they made some from the outside today as well."

After the 8-0 start to the game Charleston would go on a 30-6 run to take a 30-14 lead with 6:34 left in the opening half. NDC would go on a 7-0 run, as Roland made a pair of free throws, and Jevontae Jones hit a bucket and a 3-pointer to make it 30-21 with 4:32 in the half. After a free throw by Riley Heatherington, Roland knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the lead to seven (31-24) with 3:42 left in the opening stanza. The Golden Eagles would lead 39-28 at halftime.

Roland led NDC with 11 in the opening half- while Jones scored five off the bench.

NDC shot 30 percent in the opening half- 15 percent (2-13) from the 3-point line- and- were a perfect 8 of 8 at the free throw line.

The Golden Eagles shot 45 percent from the field- 44 percent (8-18) from the 3-point line- and- 75 percent (3-4) from the free throw line in the opening stanza.

Roland hit a jumper to briefly cut the lead to single digits (39-30) but UC would use a 10-2 run to make it 51-33 with 15:46 to go. Charleston would cruise to the victory from there.

The Falcons shot 33 percent as a team- 24 percent (6-25) from the 3-point line- and- 70 percent (16-23) from the free throw line in the contest. They won the rebounding battle 37-31. The Falcons had six assists- and- 20 turnovers as a team. Roland led NDC in scoring with 21- while Tyland Crawford netted 12.

Richmond talked about the rebounding:

"We were plus six on the boards. We had plenty of misses to go get though."

UC shot 51 percent as a team- 41 percent (11-27) from the 3-point line- and- 80 percent (12-15) from the free throw line. Monroe led the way with 20- while Eddie Colbert chipped in 11. UC had 21 assists- and- 14 turnovers in the win.

NDC will be back in action Monday when they host Wheeling. Tip time is set for 4 PM.
