Salem Comes To South Euclid To Begin New Year.

After a two week holiday break the Notre Dame College Falcons look to get the season on track Sunday when they open the calendar year by welcoming the Salem Tigers to Murphy Gym. Tip time is set for 2 PM.

NDC (2-9) is coming off a 80-75 loss to Mercy College last time out. Drew Scarberry knocked down six 3-pointer's for the second straight game- and- led the Falcons with 25 points. He was one of three players in double figures. Levi Frankland tallied his first career double-double- as he scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jordan Burton also scored in double figures with 13. NDC shot 51 percent as a team- 39 percent (9-23) from the 3-point line- and- 53 percent (8-15) from the free throw line in the defeat. They won the rebounding battle 38-31. NDC had 13 assists- but uncharacteristically turned the ball over 18 times. The Falcons are sixth in the MEC on offense scoring 79.5 points per game- while defensively they allow a MEC eighth best 82.7 points per night.

The Falcons are being narrowly out rebounded 36.5-36.7 boards per contest. One thing the Falcons have done a good job of this season is sharing the ball as they average 15 assists per game- as opposed to 12.9 per night from the opponent. Individually the Falcons are led by Frankland who has been solid offensively all season long. The redshirt sophomore from Australia is leading the season box score and is scoring an MEC eighth best 18.4 points per game. This includes shooting 53 percent from the field which is also eighth in the conference. He is third in the MEC in both 3-point percentage (46 percent-) and- 3-pointer's made per game (2.7.) Frankland is also pulling down 5.6 rebounds per night. DeAnthony Owens is scoring 15.6 points per game- while Scarberry has used his hot shooting of late to up his average to 13.8 points per game. Scarberry is fourth in the MEC-right behind Frankland making 2.6 3's per game. Larenz Thurman tallies 13.3 points per game- and- is sixth in the MEC dishing out four assists per night. Jordan Burton is scoring 9.9 points per game.

Salem (7-6) is coming off a 73-63 win at Urbana on Thursday. Malique Ross led the Tigers with 16 points- Marko Tutunovic tallied a double-double (12 points and 11 rebounds-) while Shawn Christian chipped in 12. Jordan Forbes netted 10 of his own. The Tigers shot 52 percent from the field- 44 percent (8-18) from the 3-point line- and- shot at a 72 percent clip (13-18) from the free throw line. The Tigers won the rebounding battle 35-34 in the victory. They had 12 assists- and- 13 turnovers as a team. Salem averages 82.9 points per game on the offensive end- while defensively they allow 83.8 per contest. One thing the Tigers have done well this season is get to the free throw line. They shoot 14.6 free throws per game which is 1.2 more than the opposition. They are making 75 percent from the foul line as a team. They have struggled on the boards though as they are being our rebounded by more than three per contest (36.8-40.5.) Forbes leads the Tigers individually scoring 21.8 per night. He shoots 40 percent from the 3-point line- grabs 8.2 rebounds a night- and- also leads the team in assists. Christian puts up 13.1 per game- and- is leading the Tigers shooting 44 percent from the 3-point line. Tutunovic averages 12.5 per game- and- grabs 5.5 rebounds per night. Fonz Hale rounds out the double digit scorers scoring 11 per night.
