Stingy Defense, Jones Triple Lift Charleston to the Atlantic Region Championship Game

Defense has been the calling card for the University of Charleston all season long. On Saturday night they trailed second seeded Cal (PA) by 10 (60-50) with 8:26 to go. The Golden Eagles would give up just eight points the rest of the way and a Dwaine Jones triple with three seconds left would stun Cal (PA) 69-68 in the Atlantic Region semifinals. MEC Player of The Year Eddie Colbert led the Golden Eagles with 33 points on the night, Jones was the only UC player in double figures with 18. The West Virginia State transfer also added a game high seven assists. The Vulcans were led by 22 points from KJ McLurg, Bryson Lucas had 17, and Jermaine Hall Jr. added 13. UC (29-4) will advance to Tuesday's Atlantic Region Championship game to face top seeded Gannon. UC rolled past #6 Concord 93-55 on Friday. Gannon (31-2) is on a 20 game win streak as they defeated #8 Lincoln (PA) 97-63 on Friday. Saturday night the top seeded Golden Knights defeated defending national runner up #4 seed West Liberty 103-88. The Hilltoppers defeated #5 Millersville 100-79 on Friday. In Saturday's contest Gannon had six players score in double figures. Lyle Tipton led the way with 17, Josh Omajofo had 16, Derrick James tallied 15, Mike Montano added 14, Nathan Schneider tallied 13, and Nigel Haughton chipped in 10. WLU was led by four double digit scorers. John Korte led the way with 19 and 10 rebounds, Chaz Hinds had 17, Zach Rasile netted 13, and Christian Montague scored 10.
