Vorhees Lifts Mad Ants To Win Over Charge In Cleveland Return.

The last time Will Vorhees was in the Wolstein Center prior to Wednesday night was as a member of the Notre Dame College Falcons as they were a 77-56 loser that day. That season Vorhees went on to be the Division II Player Of The Year and lead the Falcons to their first MEC Championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament. He would score 25 and grab eight rebounds in the contest.


On Wednesday night Vorhees had 13 points and a season high 14 rebounds in 17 minutes as he lifted the Fort Wayne Mad Ants to a 133-110 win over the Canton Charge. "Absolutely great to see so many people who have supported me up to this point,"Vorhees explained. "I developed into the player I am right now in Cleveland, OH so it's a blessing to be able to play professionally in front of the people who helped you reach your goals."

Vorhees entered the contest late in the first quarter with the Mad Ants holding a 23-22 advantage. The Lima native would go to work against Tacko Fall for much of the night. Despite a significant height disadvantage(Fall listed at seven-foot-six- and- Vorhees six-foot eight) Vorhees had twice as many rebounds as the Charge Center. At the end of the first quarter the Mad Ants held a 40-28 advantage. At halftime it would be a 79-66 advantage for the visitors. The Ants would control the second half and come up with the victory.

The Mad Ants had six players score in double figures in the contest. Justin Anderson led the way with 31 points, Gabe York tallied 26, Walt Lemon Jr. netted 23 to go with a team high 10 assists, Nate Hinton scored 17. and Vorhees scored 13. As a team the Mad Ants shot 51 percent from the field, 41 percent (16-39) from the 3-point line, and 55 percent (6-11) from the free throw line. They also won the rebounding battle 61-56. Fort Wayne had 32 assists and 10 turnovers on the night.

The Charge were led by 27 points and seven rebounds from Fall, Justin James netted 22, Dylan Windler had 17 to go along with eight rebounds. RJ Nemhart stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, while Tre Scott tallied 12. As a team the Charge shot 46 percent from the field, 26 percent (8-31) from the 3-point line, and 53 percent (8-15) from the free throw line. They had 21 assists and 16 turnovers on the night.

Vorhees talked about the win postgame:

"I just go in there and try to play winning basketball, play as hard as possible and do the dirty work, and when we play team basketball like we are capable of everyone eats and thankfully tonight was one of those nights, and so happy it was in front of a hometown crowd.

Just another successful night in the trajectory of Vorhees who is just one step away from his dream of playing in the NBA.
