Williams, Harris and Ogom Score in Double Figures As NDC Suffers Narrow Home Defeat.

Trent Williams tied a season high with 20 points, Andre Harris added 15, and RJ Ogom scored 12 as the NDC Falcons fell 87-79 at home to the Concord Mountain Lions Wednesday night. Keith Tolbert had 26, Jevon Laidler had 24, and JJ Harper notched 10 to lead the Mountain Lions. NDC falls to 10-10 on the season and 5-9 in MEC play. Concord improves to 15-4 and 10-4 in the MEC as they complete the season sweep of the Falcons.

"We made too many critical mistakes down the stretch. We had a couple turnovers late. Late in the game we gambled on defense and that took us out of position. They would fake and we would try and get out of the way or what not. We competed tonight we just couldn't get over the hump, "NDC head coach Mark Richmond explained.

Junior Josh Dames got NDC on the board with a triple to start this one. That was quickly answered by a Tolbert triple. After redshirt junior RJ Ogom hit a pair of free throws CU led 6-5 on a Laidler 3-ball. Redshirt junior Andre Harris hit a three of his own and NDC led 8-6. Tolbert would tie it at eight as we reached the first media timeout of this one. Junior Jamarr Talbert and redshirt sophomore Jevontae Jones hit back to back layups to put NDC up 12-8 with 13:42 in the opening half. The next five points went the way of CU before redshirt sophomore Devin Haid grabbed a rebound and went the other way to score to make it 14-13 NDC. The lead changed hands a couple times before a quick spurt by the Mountain Lions put them up 19-16 after a Rene Diop layup. NDC would tie it at 19 on a Gio Moore 3-pointer with 9:26 until halftime. A 5-0 Mountain Lions run would put them up five before a Williams 3-pointer sliced the NDC deficit to 24-22 with 8:21 in the opening half. The lead for the Mountain Lions would grow to eight but NDC would again fight back and NDC would pull them within two (37-35) after a pair of Harris free throws at the 2:57 mark. The Mountain Lions would go up eight (45-37) at the half.

Harris led NDC with nine in the first half, Williams added six, while both Gbolahan Adio and Talbert had five. As a team NDC shot 38 percent from the field, 50 percent (7-14) from the 3-point line, and 66.7 percent (4-6) from the free throw line in the opening stanza. The Falcons had five assists and two turnovers in the opening stanza. CU was paced by Tolbert with 14, while Laidler had nine, and Harper added seven in the first 20 minutes. The Mountain Lions shot 56 percent from the field, 40 percent (4-10) from the 3-point line, and led the rebounding battle 21-15. They had six assists and four turnovers in the half.

NDC came out with some energy to start the second period. They would go on a 8-0 run and tie the game at 45 on a Harris layup in transition at the 17:55 mark. After a Tolbert jumper Williams tied the game at 47 with a layup of his own. A quick 6-0 burst by the Mountain Lions put them up 53-47 with 15:21 to go. NDC would score the next four points to get to within a pair. The deficit for NDC went back to six before a Williams triple made it 57-54 CU with 11:28 on the clock. Laidler hit a jumper but Ogom hit a 3-ball and Williams knotted the game at 59 on a jumper with 9:49 to go. Laidler and Georges Archer hit back to back triples to cap a 10-0 run as Concord looked to be in control with a 69-59 lead at the 7:45 mark. NDC was still down 10 (71-61) with 6:47 on the clock. The Falcons would score the next six points as Williams made a layup to make it 71-67 CU with 5:13 to go. Laidler hit a jumper but a Williams three pulled NDC to within three (73-70) with 4:42 to go. Talbert and Haid traded baskets to keep the NDC deficit at three. The next five points would go to the Mountain Lions to put them up 80-72. Ogom hit a NDC three at the 1:02 mark to make it a 80-75 game. NDC would close to within five one more time but that is as close as they would get. The Mountain Lions would ice this one at the free throw line.

As a team NDC was led by the trio of Williams, Harris, and Ogom. Haid led the team on the glass with nine rebounds, and Adio had seven assists to lead the way. NDC shot 42.5 percent from the field, 44 percent (11-25) from the 3-point line, and 75 percent (6-8) at the free throw line. They had 15 assists and eight turnovers in the contest.

Richmond talked about Williams and Ogom:

"Those guys played well on both ends. They made some threes."

Concord was led by the trio of Tolbert, Laidler, and Harper. They shot 51.8 percent from the field, 36.8 percent (7-19) from the 3-point line, and 84.6 percent (22-26) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 39-32. They had 12 assists and 12 turnovers in the contest.

Richmond talked about the game down the stretch:

"We were good early. I think we got four offensive rebounds at the beginning of the game. They got some critical rebounds late in the first half. In a close game the late rebounds were the difference. They are the best rebounding team in the league. The guards are a big key to the team that they have. They box out well and the guards clean up the glass. As for the game down the stretch we had some late turnovers and they did not beat themselves."

NDC will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Glenville State. Tip time is set for 3 PM.
