Win Streak Snapped As Rally Falls Short.

The Notre Dame College Falcons dug themselves an early hole-battled back and to within three late- but ultimately fell 83-75 to Glenville State inside the Waco Center Saturday.

Coach Mark Richmond talked about playing uphill all day:

" We didn't get off to the start we needed to-and- had to play catch up the entire game."Richmond explained.

Drew Scarberry talked about how personally he was not ready from the tip:

" Personally I didn't come ready to play. The first half was not the start we wanted but we battled back. We showed that we are a good team when we are disciplined and able to execute. We need to take the rest of the weekend to regroup and come back ready to roll on Wednesday."Scarberry stated.

NDC (7-13 5-9 MEC) was paced by DeAnthony Owens with 25 points- Levi Frankland netted 22- and- Scarberry scored 12. NDC shot 55 percent from the field- 44 percent (8-18)from the 3-point line- and- 83 percent (5-6) at the free throw line. The Falcons had 14 assists- and- 13 turnovers in the contest.

Glenville State (13-7 10-4 MEC) had five players score in double figures led by Steven VerPlancken with 23 points. Phil Bledsoe scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds- Hazel Augustin netted 14- Tyvon Taylor chipped in 12- and- Noah Frampton contributed 10. The Pioneers shot 51 percent from the field- 34 percent (12-35) from the 3-point line- and- 82 percent from the free throw line (9-11.) The Pioneers won the rebounding battle 34-22. They had 16 assists- and- nine turnovers in the contest.

GSC would score the games first 10 points- and- had a comfortable 31-10 lead after a VerPlancken 3-pointer at the 9:19 mark of the opening half. NDC would go on a 10-0 run capped by Owens with the old fashioned three point play to cut the lead to 11 (31-20) at the 6:24 mark of the opening stanza. The lead would go back to 20 (42-22) before the Falcons closed the half on a 6-0 run to make it 42-28 at the intermission.

NDC was led by Owens with 10 points- and- Frankland netted seven in the opening stanza. NDC shot 43 percent from the floor- 13 percent (2-11) from the 3-point line- and- made both free throw attempts in the half. They had three assists- and- six turnovers in the opening stanza.

The Pioneers were led by Bledsoe who had 10 points- and- seven rebounds at the break. VerPlancken added nine- and- Augustin scored eight. The Pioneers shot 48 percent from the field- 37 percent (7-19) from the 3-point line- and- 71 percent (5-7) at the free throw line. They dominated the boards in the half out rebounding NDC 24-8. They had eight assists- and- turned it over five times in the first 20 minutes.

The Falcons would cut the lead to single digits after A Frankland 3-pointer at the 13:07 mark made the score 53-44. A Jordan Burton layup would get them within seven before a 3-pointer by Bledsoe. A Scarberry 3-pointer at the 9:49 mark would cut the deficit to seven (60-53.) At the 5:14 mark it would be a 12 point Falcons deficit but they would go on a 8-0 run with four points each from Owens and Frankland to make it 73-69 with 3:17 remaining. Taylor would score but Frankland would knock down a 3-pointer to cut it to three (75-72) at the 2:30 mark. That is as close as the Falcons would get as Scarberry knocked down a 3-ball to cut it to three (78-75) with 1:42 on the clock. The Pioneers would score the last five points to seal the win and end the NDC winning streak at three- while they ran there win streak to five games.

Frankland talked about the slow start afterwards:

" We even have a half better start we win that game. We can't come out not ready to play and expect to win. We gotta pick each other up and get back to our winning ways on Wednesday."Frankland mentioned.

Burton made it plain and simple:

" Everything we say can't just be verbal we have to show it and do it. We are very good when we follow our game plan."Burton explained.

The Falcons nearly pulled out the victory by shooting 68 percent from the field (19-28-) and- 86 percent (6-7) from the 3-point line in the second stanza.

NDC will be back in action Wednesday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan. Tip time is set for 7:30 PM in Buckhanon, West Va.
