Wise Snaps NDC Streaks Saturday.

Updated: Feb 24, 2019

Coach Tim Koenig talked about the loss afterwards:

" They (Virginia Wise) made shots. Parris hit some clutch shots especially in the second half. Defensively we did not keep them out of the paint. They had a couple run out layups early which really hurt us. "Koenig said.

Drew Scarberry netted 21 points as he knocked down six 3-pointer's- Bruce Hodges posted a double-double with 11 points- and- 10 rebounds. The Falcons shot 46 percent from the field- 35 percent (10-29) from the 3-point line- and- 76 percent (19-25) from the free throw line. They won the rebounding battle 37-35. It would be the Cavaliers that would jump out to a 9-4 run in the early going- but NDC would score the next nine points to go on top 13-9. The teams would go back and forth for the next several minutes until a Hodges 3-pointer would knot the game at 27 with 6:30 remaining in the half. Wise would lead by seven (40-33) but the Falcons would close the half on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to 42-40 at the half.

After Wise had a 85-78 lead with 43 seconds to go Scarberry would convert a four point play to make it a three point game with 36 seconds to go.. Michal Seals split a pair of free throws- and- Scarberry would hit another 3-pointer to make it a one point game with 27 seconds left. Langford hit a pair of free throws for Wise- but Vorhees would answer to cut the lead to one again (88-87.) Eason would hit a pair of free throws to make it a three point game. The Falcons would turn the ball over on the next possession- and- Langford would ice the game at the free throw line.

Koenig talked about the end of the game:

" On that last play we ran the action for Scarberry- and- had Will on the other side. Obviously did not work out the way we wanted it to. We will learn from this. We will put the ball in Larenz and Will's hands again next time- and- I am confident we will have different results."

Koenig spoke about the Seniors:

" These guys are quality people who have been instrumental to our success. Dan Atcheson has been a varsity player for four years. A lot of the time he has not seen tangible results. Obviously we did not get the outcome we were hoping for but we will learn from it. I am grateful that we get to practice on Monday- then get to practice on Tuesday- and- get to play another game on Wednesday. I am confident that this group has plenty left in the tank.
