The Mountain East Conference women's basketball preseason poll was released on Monday, as the Notre Dame College Falcons were picked third behind Glenville State and Charleston in the conference. Concord was selected fourth, while West Liberty was selected fifth. West Virginia State was picked sixth, Fairmont State is seventh, Alderson Broaddus was selected eighth, Wheeling ninth, Davis and Elkins is 10th in the poll, while Frostburg State and West Virginia Wesleyan round out the poll. It was voted on by all the league coaches.
Head Coach Imani Gordon gave her initial thoughts:
" We are pretty excited for the upcoming season. This poll is just the preseason though. Like I always tell our girls, not that that the preseason poll doesn't matter but it doesn't matter that much. We are in a familiar position being third. Obviously we want to be first but that just gives us more motivation , "Gordon explained."
The Falcons are coming off a 13-3 season in the pandemic shortened conference only season that concluded in March.
" We are really excited to stay in a hotel and have a more normal road trip this coming weekend. That is when we do a lot of our team bonding, "Gordon mentioned.
She continued:
" I am really excited to see the girls in action, actually playing basketball in front of fans this year."
NDC will open the season on Saturday when they take on Slippery Rock in the Conference Challenge at 6 PM. The following day the Falcons will battle Fayetteville State at 1 PM.
The first year Head Coach gave her final thought:
" It will be all about us for sure. It doesn't really matter especially early in the season who we are playing it's about what we do as a team. We had three scrimmages in the preseason and watched film after. It is all a part of the learning experience of being a college athlete. You play and then watch the film, and fix the mistakes that were made after you see it on film. I am excited to get going and see this team in action."
